Engine Teardown – Crankcase

-After getting nowhere trying to open the case with my homemade puller I decided to try to open the case with plastic tree felling wedges.

-I started in the larger gaps under the sump & accessory case with gentle heat from the heat gun & finally managed to start the case splitting

-After a whole lot more heating and working with the plastic wedges (destroying a few sets of wedges) managed to get the case to “pop”

-Rolled the case upright and gently opened the case, using extra hands to support the crank & cam

-Split the case, the crank looks good but immediately noticed a severely spalled tappet (#3 exhaust) and matching worn cam lobe

-However the rest looks pretty good, no obvious issues

-Catalogued all the removed parts, stored & called it a day
